Artillery

Examples of artillery where found aboard the “Tortugas” ship and included over a dozen cannon balls, well over a thousand examples of lead shot and several flints. The latter may have been intended for use with snaphause pistols which were in use by the middle of the 16th century.  Also prevalent at this time was the Spanish Miquellet design developed during the reign of Philip II, which was the precursor to the true flintlock and peaked in popularity in the first quarter of the 17th century.
