Research Vessel Odyssey Begins 2004 Shipwreck Search Season

TAMPA, FL - April 13, 2004 - Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (Amex: OMR) a leader in the field of deep ocean shipwreck exploration, has commenced 2004 shipwreck search operations aboard the Research Vessel RV Odyssey. The search team will be focused on a number of shipwreck targets in deep water along the eastern seaboard.

The 113 foot RV Odyssey was used by Odyssey Marine Exploration during the search and initial inspection phases on the SS Republic project. Since that search operation ended, the company has upgraded equipment on board the RV Odyssey to improve search and inspection operations.

"Odyssey Marine Exploration is currently conducting the excavation of the SS Republic and preparing for HMS Sussex recovery operations. However we are committed to developing a pipeline of projects." stated John Morris, Odyssey co-founder and CEO. "Continued search operations will help us fulfill our business plan by providing our recovery team with appropriate projects to excavate well into the future. We have some great potential targets and look forward to getting our proven search team back to work."

Side-scan sonar operations will be carried out utilizing a 3,000 meter Edgetech Full Spectrum Chirp DeepTow side scan sonar system with an integrated Marine Magnetics SeaSPY Overhauser magnetometer. Inspection operations will rely on two Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs); Odyssey's newly acquired 1,000 meter MaxRover and a 300 meter Phantom HD2. The new MaxRover, nicknamed CLIO, will provide the search team with enhanced inspection capabilities. It is significantly more powerful than Odyssey's former inspection ROV and sports a four function manipulator which makes it suitable for light recovery operations.
